2014: Preparing Design Education for the Next Era

In 2014, CIDA focused on reflection, alignment, and preparation for the future of interior design education. As global conversations surrounding equity, innovation, sustainability, and urban transformation continued to evolve, CIDA worked to ensure that accreditation processes and organizational strategies remained responsive to a rapidly changing educational and professional landscape.

Long before virtual learning and equity-centered frameworks became central topics across higher education, CIDA was already engaging in conversations about how design education could better reflect emerging societal needs and professional realities. The organization reassessed internal processes, strengthened collaboration with partners and stakeholders, and aligned strategic priorities with core organizational values.

This period marked an important transition point—one focused not only on maintaining rigorous accreditation standards, but also on positioning interior design education to adapt, evolve, and lead within a changing world. By examining how accreditation could support innovation while remaining grounded in accountability and quality, CIDA helped lay the groundwork for the next generation of design education.

2014 was a year of recalibration and forward thinking, setting the stage for continued evolution in how interior design programs prepare students to address complex human, environmental, and social challenges.
