2024: Professional Standards for an Evolving Future

In 2024, CIDA implemented updated Professional Standards that reflect the changing landscape of interior design education and professional practice. Developed through extensive community review and feedback, the revised standards emphasize equity, inclusion, technological fluency, innovation, and greater clarity in accreditation expectations.

The Professional Standards 2024 respond to emerging realities within design practice, including advances in technology, evolving approaches to collaboration and communication, and growing attention to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and human-centered design. At the same time, the standards continue to support flexibility across different institutional contexts while reinforcing rigorous expectations for student learning and program quality.

The updates also streamlined language and organization to improve usability and transparency for programs, site visitors, and other stakeholders involved in the accreditation process. By balancing innovation with clarity and accountability, CIDA continues to ensure that accreditation remains relevant and responsive to the future of the profession.

2024 marked another important milestone in preparing design education for an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving world.
